According to the monthly statistics released by the US Census Bureau on Thursday, housing starts fell by 1.4% on a monthly basis in December after falling by 1.8% in November.
Building permits decreased by 1.6% within the same time frame as opposed to the 10.6% decline seen in November.
Given the growing consensus that the Fed would modify its aggressive attitude and increased odds for a lesser 25 bps rate hike in February, the data fails to excite proponents of the US dollar.
