The weekly figures provided by the US Department of Labor (DOL) on Thursday revealed that initial jobless claims reached 201,000 in the week ending September 16. The reading is the lowest since late January. This follows the previous week’s print of 221,000 (revised from 220,000), which fell short of the market forecast of 225,000. “The 4-week moving average was 217,000, a decrease of 7,750 from the previous week’s revised average”, the DOL reported.
Continuing claims fell by 21,000 in the last month. to 1.662 million in the week ended September 9, the lowest level since January and well below market estimates of 1.695 million.
