According to the US Department of Labor’s (DOL) release of weekly data on Thursday, there were 205,000 new applications for unemployment benefits during the week ending January 7.
This print exceeded the market forecast of 215,000 and followed the previous week’s print of 206,000.
The 4-week moving average was 212,500, down 1,750 from the corrected average for the prior week, and the advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.1%, according to further information in the release.
