Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for Canada show that inflation slowed from 6.8% in November to 6.3% in December, which is in line with expectations.
In contrast to the 0.1% fall predicted and the flat reading from the prior month, the CPI decreased by 0.6% on a monthly basis.
The Core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy costs, also decreased by 0.3% MoM and surprisingly softened to 5.4% on an annual basis, according to the Bank of Canada.
