Luis de Guindos, vice-president of the European Central Bank (ECB), discusses his predictions for inflation and GDP at his most recent speech on Monday.
Although inflation is beginning to slow down, by mid-2023 it is still expected to be about 7%. The evolution of inflation, in which there is a reacceleration after a slowdown, must be avoided by the ECB.
The economic slowdown is not as severe as anticipated. At the time of publication, EUR/USD is up 0.12% on the day to 1.0550 despite slightly hawkish remarks from ECB policymakers.
