According to data released on Thursday by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, consumer price index (CPI) inflation in the US decreased from 7.1% in November to 6.5% in December.
This reading was consistent with what the market was anticipating. After a 0.1% gain in November, the CPI decreased by 0.1% on a monthly basis.
More information about the report showed that the Core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy costs, decreased slightly from 6% to 5.7% annually from what was anticipated. Finally, the monthly increase in Core CPI was 0.3%.
