According to data released on Tuesday by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS), there were 9.58 million open positions on the last working day of June. This estimate, which came in slightly below the market expectation of 9.62 million openings, came after 9.82 million openings in May.
“Over the month, the number of hires and total separations decreased to 5.9 million and 5.6 million, respectively.” The BLS further stated in the press release. Quits (3.8 million) declined while layoffs and discharges (1.5 million) barely changed within separations.
US JOLTS Market response
In response to this report, the US Dollar Index (DXY) first declined slightly from the multi-week high it reached at 102.43. DXY was still up as of this writing. 0.35 percent for the day at 102.22.
