Goldman Sachs Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Solomon stated that he believes there are 65% chances that the US economy would have a recession in 2023 while speaking at a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) event on Tuesday.
Probability of a soft landing, or a slowing in inflation that prevents the US economy from entering a recession, is set at 35%.
I would describe a gentle landing as returning inflation to 4% or less, possibly with a 5% terminal rate and 1% growth.
I believe there is a chance we could successfully manage such a situation. However,
I also believe that there is a very good chance that we could have some sort of recession.
He predicted that stocks will fall, oil will fall, and the US dollar will climb.
